Description:
ActionAid Italia has delivered an online training on Equality and Intersectionality for youths and associations around Europe to deepen their knowledge and understanding of gender equality and related concepts (e.g., gender equity, gender parity, women’s empowerment) and frameworks (Gender Equality Strategy and the Anti-Racism Action Plan). The workshop also delved into intersectionality, as well as harmful practices as forms of violence and power imbalance impacting girls and women across different countries and contexts.
The training was hosted by Benedetta Balmaverde (Project Manager, Gender and Economic Justice Unit) and Isabella Orfano (Programme Expert, Gender and Economic Justice Unit).
It comprised three sessions (three hours each) with frontal theoretical explanations, group works, testimonies from community leaders and open debate among participants and trainers.
The first session provided an introduction on the definitions, data, and policies that aim to fight gender discrimination.
The second session focused on intersectionality, its theoretical background and its implementation into policies and community services for gender equality.
The third and final sessions focused on two forms of gender-based violence, analyzed through the lenses of intersectionality and anti-racism: female genital mutilation and early and forced marriage. After a theoretical part, a leader from an affected community has shared her experience in prevention with communities and stakeholders to prevent.
In the last session, a final survey has been shared to collect feedback on the workshop.
The workshop has taken place online in the following dates:
- Thursday 11 January 2024 (2.00 pm – 5:00 pm CET); focus on Gender Equality
